About Hidden Grit

Strength You Don’t Always See

Hidden Grit was founded by Matt and Kayla Maxwell, a husband-and-wife team of Texas-certified educators and parents with firsthand experience navigating special education and supporting children with unique needs.

We understand that every child has strengths that may not always be immediately visible. Hidden Grit was created to provide welcoming, individualized support that helps children build skills, confidence, independence, and pride in who they are.

Meet Matt

Matt is a Texas-certified educator in general education, physical education, and special education. His background combines movement, fitness, and individualized support for children with different abilities. He is passionate about helping students experience success, build confidence, and develop skills that support greater independence.

Meet Kayla

Kayla has experience in special education, ARD processes, and dyslexia intervention. She is a Texas-certified general education teacher, special education teacher, and a certified academic language therapist (dyslexia interventionist).  Her work is grounded in helping families better understand their child’s learning needs while providing instruction that is structured, encouraging, and responsive to the individual student.

Our Mission

Hidden Grit provides supportive educational opportunities for children with diverse learning needs and abilities. We currently offer reading tutoring, math tutoring, and dyslexia therapy, with plans to expand into adaptive fitness, life-skills instruction, and additional family-centered learning programs.

As both educators and parents, we know that progress looks different for every child. Our goal is to recognize each student’s strengths, meet them where they are, and help them take meaningful steps forward.

At Hidden Grit, we believe every child carries strength within them—even when others cannot yet see it. We call this Strength You Don't Always See.
